  • Security arrangements in the Northern Province have been beefed up to ensure a free and fair Local Government election which will be held today, Jaffna District Returning Officer Emelda Sukumar told the Daily News at the Jaffna Secretariat yesterday.

She further said around 1,500 police personnel together with the Special Task Force (STF) have been deployed in the Jaffna district for election duties and two police personnel will escort each ballot box.

In addition, mobile police vehicles together with election monitors will visit all centres.
