People endorsed govt’s development programme

Prime Minister D M Jayaratne commenting on the results of the 65 Local Government bodies held on Saturday, stated that the public has reiterated its support for the government’s development programme.

In a statement, he also stated, “the overwhelming victory of the UPFA showed that people have become a strength to the government’s development initiatives. Even though anti-government political groups attempted to mislead the public during the election period, the entire country had identified those attempts as baseless allegations.

“The opposition anticipating their defeat tried to deceive the people by projecting heightened clashes in certain areas.

“We must also give a message to the international community at this time. For that we must work for a common goal ignoring party differences. It is through our unity that we can face international challenges with confidence.”
